AJMAN, United Arab Emirates — The Ajman Transport Authority has signed an agreement with the Emirates Autism Society to launch and operate a sensory taxi for people with autism spectrum disorder.
The initiative is intended to strengthen inclusive mobility services in the emirate and improve transport options for People of Determination. Officials said it reflects the authority’s wider effort to build a more responsive transport system for all residents.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Omar Mohammed Lootah, director-general of the Ajman Transport Authority; Fatima Saif Al Matrooshi, vice chairwoman of the board of directors of the Emirates Autism Society; and Engineer Amal Salem Al Karbi, director-general of the society.
Under the deal, the transport authority will provide and operate the vehicle, including installing the meter, cameras and signage, along with any technical modifications needed to make the taxi suitable for its purpose.
The Emirates Autism Society will review the vehicle’s fittings, advise on the sensory and assistive features required, and help shape the service so it meets the needs of passengers with autism. The society will also provide training for drivers and staff to improve understanding of autism spectrum disorder.
Officials said the partnership is meant to combine technical transport expertise with specialist guidance on autism support. They added that the service is designed to be safe, comfortable and practical for families who need more tailored travel options.
The move comes as UAE authorities continue to expand services for People of Determination through public transport, accessibility upgrades and community partnerships. Further details on the rollout of the sensory taxi service are expected once the operational phase begins.
