UAE’s Mleiha National Park in Race for World Travel Awards

SHARJAH- Residents and nature enthusiasts in the UAE are encouraging the public to vote for Mleiha National Park after it was shortlisted for the World Travel Awards 2026 under the category of Middle East’s Leading National Park.

The park is the only entry from the UAE competing alongside some of the region’s most prominent protected destinations, making public support crucial in securing the title.

Located in Sharjah’s central region, Mleiha National Park is a standout destination that blends natural landscapes with deep-rooted history. The site, anchored by the Mleiha Archaeological Centre, features discoveries dating back over 200,000 years, offering rare insight into early human settlement in the Arabian Peninsula.

Known for its fossil-rich terrain, ancient burial sites and dramatic desert formations such as Fossil Rock and Camel Rock, Mleiha has grown into a key eco-tourism hub. Visitors can explore guided desert tours, archaeological experiences, and stargazing programmes in one of the UAE’s most pristine natural settings.

Residents and frequent visitors have rallied behind the nomination, encouraging others to vote before the July 31, 2026 deadline.

“It is just over an hour’s drive from Sharjah city. I have visited several times — it has a majestic charm. As the only UAE nominee, we should all support it,” said N. Ali, a Ras Al Khaimah-based logistics professional.

“It offers an authentic connection to the desert where history, nature and adventure come together,” said KP Ashraf, a school supervisor in Ajman.

Shekhar Kumar, who regularly visits the Northern Emirates, said Mleiha stands out for its stargazing experiences. “The clear skies make it ideal. I have already voted,” he noted.

Sajna KV highlighted its educational value, pointing to fossil expeditions that allow visitors to explore the region’s ancient marine past and understand how fossils are formed.

Sebastian A, an equestrian enthusiast, said the park’s scenic riding trails with views of Fossil Rock and the Faya mountain range make it a unique destination. “I voted as soon as I saw the campaign,” he added.

Adventure seekers can experience dune drives, sandboarding, and buggy tours, while history enthusiasts can explore Iron Age ruins and archaeological sites through guided tours.

Voting remains open until July 31, with organisers reminding participants to verify their email after casting their vote.

With its unique blend of heritage, science and adventure, Mleiha National Park represents the UAE’s growing focus on sustainable tourism — and a strong public response could help secure it a leading regional title.
