MUSCAT, Oman: Six people were killed and 18 others injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Oman’s Samail on Friday night, with eight of the injured in critical condition, the Royal Oman Police said Saturday.
The collision involved a truck and several vehicles on Sultan Thuwaini bin Said Road in the Wadi Bani Rawaha area of Samail, on the route toward Muscat.
The crash caused significant congestion as emergency and traffic authorities responded to the scene.
Police confirm casualties
The Royal Oman Police initially warned motorists approaching the area to drive carefully but did not immediately release details about casualties.
A subsequent update Saturday morning confirmed that six people had died and 18 had been injured. Eight of the injured were described as being in critical condition.
The police later identified the accident location as the Al Mahal area of Samail.
Authorities have not yet publicly provided details on the circumstances that led to the collision or identified a possible cause.
Traffic affected toward Muscat
The accident disrupted traffic along the route toward Muscat, with motorists advised to reduce speed, remain alert and follow directions from traffic authorities while the response operation was underway.
Samail is located in Oman’s Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate and serves as an important route connecting areas of the interior with Muscat. Heavy traffic on key highways can quickly cause delays when major collisions occur.
South Al Batinah Governorate also expressed condolences to the families of those who died and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
