5 Tips to Get the Best Rate
1
Never transfer at the airport or hotel
Airport exchange counters typically offer rates 3–5% worse than a standard exchange house. On a 5,000 AED transfer that is AED 150–250 lost. Always use a registered exchange house or your bank app.
2
Compare at least two exchange houses before sending
Al Ansari, Lulu Exchange and Al Fardan all publish daily rates on their websites and apps. A 10-minute comparison can get you an extra 0.10–0.30 per AED — which adds up significantly on large transfers.
3
Send mid-week when possible — avoid Monday mornings
Currency markets are most volatile on Monday mornings after the weekend. Mid-week rates (Tuesday to Thursday) tend to be more stable. Not always possible, but worth timing if you have flexibility.
4
Use the app, not the counter — rates are often better
Al Ansari Exchange, Lulu Exchange and UAE Exchange all offer slightly better rates on their mobile apps compared to in-branch counters. The difference is small but consistent — use the app when you can.
5
Watch USD/INR news — AED follows the dollar
The AED is pegged to the US dollar. When the dollar strengthens globally, your AED buys more INR, PKR and PHP. Follow GDM's Gulf Updates for currency-relevant news so you can time your transfers better.
