Qatar Visa on Arrival: Guide for Travelers from 102 Countries

DOHA, Qatar– Qatar maintains its status as a highly accessible Gulf destination in 2026, offering visa-free entry to nationals of over 102 countries upon arrival at Hamad International Airport or other ports of entry. This streamlined policy supports the nation’s tourism ambitions by enabling hassle-free visits to Doha’s cultural landmarks, business opportunities, and events.

The programme, officially referred to as visa-free entry for most eligible nationalities, grants stays of up to 90 days (multiple entries within 180 days) for citizens of higher-tier countries, including those from the European Union and Schengen Area, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina, Turkey, and Ukraine, among others.

For the majority of eligible nationalities, a 30-day single-entry visa-free stay is available, with the option to extend once for an additional 30 days through the Ministry of Interior portal. This category includes nationals from China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Russia, South Africa, and various others across Asia, Europe, Africa, and Oceania.

Recent refinements underscore Qatar’s balanced approach to welcoming visitors while prioritising reliable arrangements:

  • Nationals of India, Pakistan, Thailand, and Iran must secure their full hotel accommodation through the official Discover Qatar platform (discoverqatar.qa) prior to travel; bookings via third-party providers do not qualify.
  • Health insurance becomes mandatory for extensions beyond 30 days, with basic coverage available for approximately 50 QAR (about $14) from approved providers.
  • Additional requirements may include proof of sufficient funds (such as an international credit card or bank statements) for select groups.

All applicants must present a passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay, a confirmed return or onward ticket, and proof of accommodation. GCC residents holding valid residence permits may qualify under approved profession lists, provided documents remain valid for three months. Travellers with current visas or residence permits from the Schengen Area, United States, United Kingdom, or Canada often benefit from facilitated entry, even if their nationality falls outside standard eligibility.

The process remains straightforward: Upon arrival, visitors proceed to immigration counters, submit required documents, and receive an entry stamp, typically within minutes. Overstays attract a daily fine of 200 QAR, while extensions are processed online for around 200 QAR.

A separate transit facility provides free entry for up to 96 hours for all nationalities, ideal for short layovers.

Qatar’s visa framework reflects its commitment to fostering tourism, business ties, and cultural exchange across the region and beyond. Travellers are advised to verify the latest details on official portals such as visitqatar.com or moi.gov.qa, and to arrange Discover Qatar bookings where required to ensure smooth entry in 2026.
