DUBAI— Dubai has launched its first Environment Conference and Exhibition, bringing together officials, experts and representatives from the public and private sectors to discuss climate action and sustainability.
The two-day event, held Sept. 7-8 at Grand Hyatt Dubai, was opened by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy. It is organised by the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority under the theme “Protecting Our Environment… Securing Our Future.”
The conference focuses on six areas identified as key environmental priorities for Dubai: biodiversity, natural resources, food security, climate change, the circular economy and artificial intelligence for environmental applications.
Sheikh Ahmed said the event would support efforts to protect the environment, address climate change and promote sustainable use of resources. He said it would also encourage knowledge-sharing and partnerships between government, business and other sectors.
The programme includes panel discussions, scientific presentations and an exhibition featuring environmental initiatives and technologies. Participants are expected to discuss measures to protect biodiversity and natural habitats, conserve air and water resources, strengthen food supply chains and reduce food waste.
Climate-related sessions will examine greenhouse gas emissions, adaptation to climate impacts, community resilience and innovative financing for climate action. Discussions on the circular economy will cover resource recovery, recycling and electronic waste.
The conference will also examine the use of artificial intelligence in environmental monitoring, including data collection, ecosystem assessment and regulatory compliance.
Ahmed Mohammed bin Thani, director-general of the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority, said the conference aims to provide a platform for environmental dialogue and cooperation at national and regional levels.
He said the event was designed to bring together government, businesses, academia and communities to exchange expertise and showcase environmental technologies and solutions.
The conference forms part of wider UAE and Dubai sustainability initiatives, including the UAE Net Zero by 2050 strategy, National Green Agenda 2030, Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
