Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Dubai Municipality has opened three integrated markets for workers across key industrial areas, bringing 866 stalls offering essential goods, personal services, sports and community facilities closer to workers’ accommodation.
The markets are located in Muhaisnah 2, Al Quoz Industrial Area 3 and Al Quoz 4. A fourth facility in Jebel Ali Industrial Area 1 is expected to open in the coming period.
Together, the three completed projects cover more than 69,000 square metres and have been designed as community hubs where workers can access everyday services without having to travel far from their accommodation.
What the Dubai worker markets offer
Each market includes eight main service categories, covering food kiosks, fruit and vegetable shops, meat and fish outlets, consumer goods stores, barber shops and tailoring services.
The facilities also include sports amenities and dedicated areas for health awareness and community activities.
The three operational markets have served more than 640,000 workers and recorded a reported satisfaction rate of 99%, according to Dubai Municipality.
The municipality said the locations are intended to support access to essential services while promoting public health, food safety, recreation and community engagement.
More than 800,000 attendances at community events
The facilities have also hosted 69 community events that recorded more than 800,000 attendances.
In addition, 16 awareness workshops covering areas such as health and safety, food safety, first aid, public health and emergency preparedness reached more than 16,500 workers.
The initiative has received external recognition, including a British Safety Council Award in Category A, according to Dubai Municipality.
Fourth market planned for Jebel Ali
The upcoming Jebel Ali Industrial Area 1 market will expand the network to another major concentration of workers and businesses.
Dubai Municipality is working with private-sector operators to manage the facilities under approved regulatory requirements covering health, safety, food safety and sustainability.
The approach reflects Dubai’s broader focus on integrating community services into urban planning, particularly in areas with large worker populations.
For the UAE’s industrial and logistics sectors, such facilities can also provide a more convenient way for workers to access essential services, recreation and health information close to where they live.
The municipality said the projects are intended to provide a model that can be expanded to other communities in Dubai and potentially across the UAE.
