Nissan Magnite fits UAE’s growing appetite for weekend road trips

DUBAI, UAE – More residents are skipping airport lines to explore places closer to home. A Friday drive to Hatta. A long weekend tracing the coastline through Fujairah. No boarding passes. No baggage. No wasted hours in transit. Just a full tank and a loose plan.

The car drivers choose shapes these trips. Not every SUV needs to handle desert crossings. Sometimes what drivers want is something compact, fuel-efficient and simple to park. The Nissan Magnite fills that space.

Available through Arabian Automobiles Co., the exclusive Nissan dealer in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, the Magnite is a compact SUV that entered the UAE market with a clear pitch: a practical, well-equipped vehicle without a premium price.

Powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 100 horsepower and 152 newton-meters of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission, the Magnite is tuned for commuting through city traffic during the week and heading out of town when the weekend arrives.

Fuel efficiency is where the Magnite makes its strongest case. Rated at about 17 kilometers per liter on the CVT, a full tank comfortably covers a return trip from Dubai to Fujairah with plenty left over. Or a loop through Ras Al Khaimah and back. Weekend trips become more enjoyable when fuel consumption is no longer a concern.

Size matters, too. Just under 4 meters in length, the Magnite is noticeably easier to maneuver and park than a midsize SUV. Anyone who has circled a hotel parking lot in Dibba or tried to squeeze into a spot at a Sharjah souk will understand the appeal. Yet the cabin does not feel squeezed. Nissan stretched the wheelbase to 2,500 millimeters, creating a roomy interior for five. The boot offers 336 liters of cargo space as standard, enough for a weekend bag each, and with the rear seats folded, that expands to 690 liters.

A practical layer of technology makes the Magnite feel more considered than its price suggests. Cruise control comes standard on even the base and mid variants. Depending on the trim, the SUV includes an around-view monitor for tight parking, vehicle dynamic control for highway stability and hill-start assist for inclines heading into the mountains. Six airbags come standard across all variants, as do three-point seatbelts for rear passengers.

The Magnite is not trying to be something it is not. It is not a performance car or a luxury SUV. It is a well-judged compact vehicle for the way many people in the UAE actually use their cars: getting through the week efficiently and getting out of the city affordably when the weekend comes.

Prices start at 59,900 dirhams. That undercuts much of the competition while covering the essentials.

The Magnite is available to view and test drive at Arabian Automobiles showrooms in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates.
