DUBAI, United Arab Emirates: Commuters in Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) and Uptown Dubai will have a new public transport option beginning Aug. 1, as Dubai introduces its first fully electric community bus service to improve local connectivity and reduce reliance on private vehicles.
The new JLT Link network will provide regular services between residential, commercial and leisure destinations while connecting passengers with DMCC Metro Station and Sobha Realty Metro Station, making it easier to complete first- and last-mile journeys.
The electric shuttle will replace the existing community bus service, with authorities saying the transition is designed to be seamless for existing passengers. The network will serve 18 stops using accessible, zero-emission buses.
Frequent services across JLT
Two circular routes covering JLT will operate every 20 minutes from early morning until late evening between Monday and Saturday.
On Sundays, buses will run from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 a.m., providing all-day access for residents, office workers and visitors.
The routes are designed to improve access to restaurants, cafés, hotels, retail outlets, fitness centers and other community facilities while strengthening links with Dubai’s wider public transport network.
Uptown Dubai connection
A dedicated shuttle between Uptown Dubai and DMCC Metro Station will operate every 30 minutes, with services running from 6:55 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The route is expected to offer commuters a convenient alternative to driving, particularly for those travelling between Uptown Dubai and the Metro.
Supporting cleaner transport
The launch marks another step in Dubai’s wider strategy to expand sustainable mobility and encourage greater use of environmentally friendly transport options.
Electric buses produce no tailpipe emissions and contribute to quieter urban transport, supporting the emirate’s long-term goals to reduce carbon emissions and improve public transport accessibility.
