Abu Dhabi launches new bus routes linking passengers to Etihad Rail

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Passengers travelling on the Etihad Rail passenger network now have additional public transport options after Abu Dhabi introduced two new bus routes linking key city transport hubs with Mohammed Bin Zayed City Train Station.

The new MR1 and MR2 services, launched by Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), connect the train station with the Main Bus Station and Al Zahya Bus Station in both directions, making transfers between bus and rail services more convenient.

The expansion is part of broader efforts to strengthen multimodal transport across the emirate as the UAE’s national passenger rail network continues to grow.

Supporting easier rail connections

The additional bus services are designed to improve first- and last-mile connectivity for residents and visitors using Etihad Rail, reducing travel times between the railway station and central areas of Abu Dhabi.

The launch follows the start of Etihad Rail’s passenger operations on June 30, with the first phase connecting Abu Dhabi and Fujairah. The national passenger service is scheduled for official inauguration on Sept. 30, 2026.

The initial timetable includes six daily journeys, with three services operating in each direction.

Shuttle services also available

Passengers can also access a dedicated Dh10 shuttle bus linking Mohammed Bin Zayed City Station with several destinations across Abu Dhabi, including:

  • ADNOC Headquarters on Corniche Road West
  • ADNEC Centre
  • Reem Mall

The shuttle can be booked through the official Etihad Rail app or via the railway’s website:

Integrated transport network

Etihad Rail said it is working closely with transport authorities to coordinate bus and taxi services with train arrival and departure schedules, helping passengers complete their journeys more efficiently.

At the Fujairah end of the route, passengers already have access to taxis, ride-hailing pick-up zones, bus connections and an on-site rental car service. The company said additional vehicle rental partners will be introduced as more stations become operational across the expanding rail network.

As the UAE continues rolling out its nationwide passenger rail system, further transport links and supporting services are expected to be introduced to improve accessibility and encourage greater use of public transport.
