SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates — Air Arabia has launched direct flights between Sharjah and Rome, adding the Italian capital as its second destination in Italy after Milan Bergamo.
The new service began operating this week and will run five times a week between Sharjah International Airport and Rome Fiumicino Airport, the airline said.
Adel Al Ali, group chief executive of Air Arabia, said the route expands the carrier’s European network and gives customers more travel choices at affordable fares.
The launch was marked by ceremonies at Sharjah and Rome airports, with officials from Air Arabia, the Sharjah Airport Authority, the Italian Consulate and Rome Fiumicino Airport in attendance.
Ali Salim Al Midfa, chairman of the Sharjah Airport Authority, said the new service reflects rising demand for European travel and strengthens the airport’s links to one of the continent’s major tourism and business destinations.
At Rome Fiumicino Airport, chief aviation officer Ivan Bassato said the route deepens air links between Italy and the Middle East. He said the new connection adds travel opportunities between Rome and the Arabian Peninsula and supports a market that passed 2 million passengers in 2025, up 5% from the previous year.
The Rome route joins Air Arabia’s wider European network from Sharjah, which already includes Milan Bergamo, Munich, Vienna, Athens, Prague, Krakow, Warsaw Chopin, Warsaw Modlin and London Gatwick.
The airline said the service will be operated with Airbus A320neo aircraft. Further route growth is expected as Air Arabia continues to expand its international network from the UAE.
