DUBAI — Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, deputy prime minister, minister of defense and chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, has congratulated four Emirati students from Dubai Schools – Al Khawaneej for winning a gold medal at the International Greenwich Olympiad in London.
The competition, held from June 14 to 20, brought together students from more than 80 countries to present innovative projects in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, art and media that support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The winning team — Ali Al Jarwan, Khalifa Al Marzouqi, Omar Al Balushi and Saeed Abu Al Shawareb — earned the top honor for their project, “Smart Irrigation Train.”
The project integrates the Internet of Things (IoT), solar energy and smart agriculture technologies to improve water management in remote farming areas, offering a sustainable solution to irrigation challenges.
Sheikh Hamdan said investing in young Emirati talent remains a strategic priority as the UAE prepares future generations to lead in a rapidly changing world.
“Creative minds are our greatest national asset,” he said. “By transforming knowledge into innovative solutions, they create new opportunities and drive lasting progress.”
After being briefed on the project, Sheikh Hamdan praised the students for bringing recognition to Dubai and the UAE on the international stage. He encouraged them to continue pursuing academic excellence, scientific research and innovation while serving as role models for other young people across the emirate.
The International Greenwich Olympiad is an annual global competition that showcases student-led projects addressing real-world challenges through innovation and scientific research. It attracts participants from around the world to present solutions aligned with the U.N.’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
