ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq met in Abu Dhabi on Sunday to discuss bilateral relations and regional security challenges facing the Gulf.
The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in economic and development fields, as well as exchanging views on serious developments in the Middle East, according to the UAE Presidential Court.
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continued consultation on various issues in light of shared challenges facing the region and the need to bolster cooperation to safeguard its security and stability.
Sheikh Mohamed received Sultan Haitham, who arrived in the UAE earlier in the day on a fraternal visit. The Omani leader was welcomed at the Presidential Airport in Abu Dhabi by Sheikh Mohamed, along with a number of sheikhs, ministers and officials.
The meeting was attended by senior UAE officials, including Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance; Sheikh Suroor bin Mohammed Al Nahyan; Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; and other members of the UAE leadership.
The Omani delegation included Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs; Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of State and Governor of Muscat; and several ministers and senior officials.
The two sides discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation, particularly in support of shared priorities and interests, as well as the prosperity and wellbeing of their peoples.
They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of joint interest, particularly ongoing efforts to strengthen security, stability and peace for the benefit of all countries and peoples of the region.
The meeting comes amid tensions across the Middle East, with Gulf states increasingly focused on diplomatic coordination to maintain stability in the region.
