ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates: The United Arab Emirates has committed $10 million in emergency humanitarian assistance for communities affected by a major earthquake in Colombia, under the directives of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The UAE Aid Agency will coordinate the relief response with Colombian authorities and international partners, with assistance aimed at areas facing the most urgent needs.
The package will include medical supplies, food and shelter materials, according to the UAE’s official news agency, WAM.
Aid to focus on immediate needs
Dr. Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, said UAE relief teams are working to determine priorities on the ground and accelerate the delivery of essential assistance.
The response is intended to support people dealing with injuries, displacement and damage to homes and infrastructure following the earthquake.
The agency said the aid will be distributed in coordination with relevant authorities and humanitarian partners to ensure resources are directed toward the hardest-hit communities.
Support beyond emergency relief
In addition to addressing immediate humanitarian needs, the UAE said its assistance will support early recovery and efforts to restore stability in affected areas.
The response forms part of the UAE’s wider international humanitarian work, including assistance to countries affected by natural disasters and other emergencies.
The UAE also conveyed its condolences to the families of those killed in the earthquake and expressed its wishes for the recovery of those injured.
