DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — UAE businessman Khalaf Al Habtoor has said he will gift 59 cars to Egypt’s World Cup players and support staff in recognition of their performance at the tournament.
Al Habtoor said each member of the team, along with technical, administrative and medical staff, will receive a Mitsubishi vehicle. An Al Habtoor Group spokesperson confirmed that 59 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SUVs are being prepared for shipment.
The business leader said the gesture was meant to honor what he described as a performance that brought pride not only to Egypt but to Arabs across the region.
In a post on X, Al Habtoor said Egypt’s success was a source of joy for the Arab world and praised the squad for its determination and fighting spirit.
The gift follows Egypt’s run to the round of 16 at the World Cup, where the team was eliminated after a close match against Argentina. The squad’s return home was marked by a public celebration, with fans greeting the players in Cairo.
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi also honored the team and its staff with the Order of Merit in recognition of their tournament performance.
Al Habtoor said he had already communicated the plan to the Egyptian Football Association. He added that the gift was also meant to acknowledge the collective effort behind the team’s success, including the work of the support staff.
The announcement adds to the wave of regional praise for Egypt’s World Cup campaign, which has been widely celebrated in the Arab world. Further arrangements for the vehicle delivery are expected to follow in coordination with the football association.
