Four arrested in Kuwait over diesel theft from telecom towers

KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait: Kuwaiti authorities have arrested four men over alleged diesel theft and damage to telecommunications towers in the Jaber Al-Ahmad area, with investigators examining whether the suspects were involved in similar incidents elsewhere in the country.

The cases were initially recorded as offences committed by unidentified individuals. Authorities later intensified surveillance and investigative efforts at telecommunications sites, eventually identifying four suspects who worked for a company contracted to maintain the towers.

According to Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior, the suspects allegedly used their access to the sites to remove excess diesel.

Fuel allegedly taken from tower sites

Investigators said some of the fuel was transferred to other locations to address shortages, while additional quantities were allegedly removed and sold.

The four suspects, identified by authorities as Indian nationals, were arrested as investigators expanded the probe into the incidents.

During questioning, authorities said the suspects admitted to carrying out the alleged offences over a period of about two years and at multiple locations.

Investigators are also examining possible connections between the group and similar cases reported in other Kuwaiti governorates.

Investigation continues

The Ministry of Interior said the investigation remains active as authorities work to establish the full scope of the alleged offences and identify any additional locations or incidents connected to the case.

The suspects are expected to be referred to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings.

The case highlights the security challenges surrounding telecommunications infrastructure, where backup generators and fuel supplies can be essential to maintaining services during power interruptions.

Kuwaiti authorities have also emphasized the protection of critical infrastructure and said action would be taken against individuals suspected of stealing from or damaging facilities.

The investigation is expected to continue as authorities assess the alleged losses and determine whether further suspects or related incidents are connected to the case.
