Sharjah Heritage to take part in Cairo International Book Fair

SHARJAH, Jan 18, 2026 (WAM) – The Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) will participate in the 57th Cairo International Book Fair, to be held from Jan. 21 to Feb. 3, 2026, at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre in New Cairo, with wide participation from government entities and Arab and international publishing houses.

Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam, chairman of SIH, said the institute is committed to maintaining an active and distinctive presence at successive editions of the fair, one of the largest cultural events in the Middle East, which attracts nearly two million visitors annually.

He said the participation reflects the institute’s efforts to preserve tangible and intangible cultural heritage, link it with contemporary realities, and promote it through various channels.

Al Musallam said this approach is reflected in the launch and implementation of projects and initiatives, including organising and participating in heritage events, exhibitions and festivals at local and international levels. He added that the Cairo International Book Fair is a prominent global cultural platform at which the institute is keen to maintain a consistent presence.

He noted that SIH has made significant progress in enriching the heritage landscape, attracting researchers and specialists, and supporting heritage research and studies. He said the institute has also contributed to strengthening Emirati and Arab libraries with specialised publications, including books, journals and periodicals focused on heritage at local and international levels.

Al Musallam said the Sharjah government places strong emphasis on books, knowledge-based and creative industries, and the promotion of a reading culture as a strategic priority, inspired by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

The SIH pavilion at the fair will feature more than 1,000 publications covering a wide range of heritage topics.

The institute will also present a cultural programme that includes panel discussions on shared Emirati and Egyptian cultural heritage, the heritage book and its presence and absence, Egyptian heritage in SIH publications, and specialised institutional publishing. The programme includes heritage readings in cooperation with the Book Club and book-signing events for new publications.
