NHRI Hosts Ninth Knowledge Lab Focused on Workers’ Rights

Abu Dhabi, UAE – July 4, 2025 — The National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) held the ninth session of its ongoing “Knowledge Lab” series, an internal seminar initiative aimed at enhancing awareness and education on key human rights topics.

The latest session centered on the protection and promotion of workers’ rights in the United Arab Emirates. It reflects NHRI’s continued efforts to deepen understanding of national labor legislation, monitor international developments, and foster dialogue around building inclusive, fair, and dignified work environments.

The session was led by Dr. Zayed Al Shamsi, a member of NHRI’s Board of Trustees, who emphasized the institution’s role in monitoring labor conditions, ensuring compliance with national and international legal frameworks, and investigating complaints regarding labor rights violations in line with established procedures.

The seminar addressed three main themes:

  1. Association for the Coordination of Professional Associations
This segment introduced the Association for the Coordination of Professional Associations in the UAE and explored its role in fostering institutional collaboration and enhancing performance standards across various professional bodies.

  2. International Labour Organization (ILO)
The second section focused on the ILO’s mission, core principles, and international labor standards. The discussion emphasized the organization’s work in protecting workers’ rights and promoting social justice globally.

  3. UAE Labor Law and International Standards
The final segment examined the alignment of the UAE’s labor legislation with international conventions, highlighting areas of harmonization and the country’s ongoing efforts to align its labor policies with global best practices.

The NHRI reaffirmed its commitment to hosting future events that promote human rights awareness and support legislative and policy advancements. These initiatives align with the institution’s broader mission to help position the UAE as a global leader in the protection of human rights and human dignity.
