ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Etihad Rail has published its passenger fare rules, setting out discounts for children and senior citizens as the UAE moves toward a wider rollout of passenger rail services.
Under the operator’s passenger charter, children under 18 will receive 50% off fares, while passengers aged 60 and above will get a 20% discount. The policy applies to both UAE nationals and residents, and travelers may be asked to show identification to confirm eligibility.
Children younger than 14 must travel with an accompanying adult, according to the fare guidance. Adults between 18 and 59 will pay standard prices unless they qualify for another approved discount.
Infants up to age 2 may travel free of charge if they sit on an adult’s lap and do not require a separate seat. Etihad Rail said infants traveling this way will not receive a separate baggage allowance.
If more than one infant travels with the same adult, a child ticket must be purchased for each additional infant. The company advised passengers to carry identification documents when booking or boarding to make age checks smoother at stations.
Etihad Rail also said all passenger trips must be booked in advance. Tickets can be purchased until five minutes before departure, after which sales for that service close.
The company has introduced promotional introductory fares on the Abu Dhabi-Fujairah route, starting at Dh55 in comfort class and Dh120 in premium class. Fares for future routes will be announced later.
Etihad Rail said pricing will be reviewed over time as the network grows and passenger demand develops. The company added that updates to fares or services will be published at least 30 days before taking effect.
The charter also outlines passenger rights and responsibilities from booking through arrival, and is intended to evolve with input from federal and local authorities.
Separately, Abu Dhabi Police has opened a security office at Etihad Rail’s station in Mohammed bin Zayed City to support passenger safety and provide services including reports, lost-and-found assistance and coordination with other authorities.
As passenger operations expand, the fare structure and station services are expected to be refined further, giving travelers clearer rules and more options across the national rail network.
