Summer rain brings hail to UAE as NCM issues alerts

Parts of the UAE experienced rainfall and hail on Monday as unstable weather conditions affected eastern areas, prompting the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) to issue safety alerts.

Residents in areas including Fujairah, Khor Fakkan and Ras Al Khaimah were advised to remain cautious as convective clouds developed, bringing the possibility of rain, thunder and other weather-related hazards.

The NCM issued yellow and orange alerts covering affected areas and warned the public to take precautions when travelling outdoors.

Videos shared by local weather monitoring platforms showed hail and rainfall in the Masafi area, located near the eastern mountain region of the country.

The weather alert remained active until Monday evening, with authorities continuing to monitor cloud activity and changing conditions.

The NCM advised motorists to drive carefully during rainfall and avoid areas vulnerable to flash floods or water accumulation.

Residents were also encouraged to stay away from open spaces, elevated locations and exposed areas during lightning and thunderstorms. Authorities warned that strong downdraft winds could reduce visibility and cause loose objects to become airborne.

UAE sees summer rainfall

Although the UAE is known for its hot summer climate, periods of rainfall can occur when atmospheric conditions support cloud formation.

Earlier in July, parts of Al Ain recorded moderate to heavy rainfall, marking another unusual summer weather event in the country.

Weather patterns during the coming months are expected to remain closely monitored as seasonal changes approach. Increased humidity and changing atmospheric conditions can contribute to cloud development and occasional rainfall events.

The NCM continues to provide regular updates through its official channels, advising residents to follow weather warnings and safety instructions during periods of changing conditions.
