DUBAI, United Arab Emirates: Dubai is preparing to introduce a new rental-payment service that could allow tenants to spread annual residential rent across as many as 12 months without interest.
The planned “Rent Now, Pay Later” service is expected to launch in September through a partnership between the Dubai Land Department and a local bank, according to a report by Emarat Al Youm.
The proposal would give tenants an alternative to paying a full year’s rent upfront, an arrangement that can create a significant financial burden for households moving into a new home or renewing a lease.
How the proposed service would work
Under the planned model, a tenant would choose an eligible residential property and arrange the rental payment through the participating bank.
The bank would pay the landlord the full annual rent upfront. The tenant would then repay the bank in instalments over a period of up to 12 months, with no interest charged under the proposed arrangement.
The exact process, however, has not yet been finalized.
Details on eligibility, applications, repayment arrangements and how participating tenants, landlords and the bank will be connected are expected to be released when the service officially launches.
Dubai expands flexible rent options
The initiative follows the Dubai Land Department’s introduction of its Flexi Rent initiative in June, which expanded rental payment options to include monthly, quarterly and semiannual schedules.
The latest proposal would take that flexibility further by introducing a bank-supported structure in which the landlord receives the annual rental value upfront while the tenant pays in smaller instalments.
For Dubai residents, the change could be particularly relevant as rental affordability and payment flexibility remain important considerations when choosing where to live.
The proposed system may also give landlords greater certainty over receiving the agreed annual rent while reducing the immediate payment requirement for tenants.
Service expected to launch in September
The new mechanism remains under development, so prospective tenants should wait for the Dubai Land Department to publish the official terms before making financial or rental decisions based on the proposal.
If launched in its proposed form, the service would represent another shift toward more flexible rental-payment arrangements in Dubai’s residential market.
Further information on participating properties, banks, eligibility requirements and application procedures is expected when the service is formally announced in September.
