DXB to become indoor fitness track for Dubai Mallathon event

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Dubai International Airport (DXB) will become an unusual fitness destination this month as it hosts the Dubai Mallathon for the first time, turning the aviation hub into an indoor walking venue as part of a citywide wellness initiative.

Dubai Airports said the invitation-only event will bring the Mallathon concept to one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks, encouraging participants to stay active in a climate-controlled environment during the summer months.

The operator said access to the DXB event will be limited to invited participants and advised members of the public not to visit the airport specifically to attend.

The Dubai Mallathon was introduced as a summer fitness initiative that uses indoor locations, including shopping malls, as walking and exercise spaces during periods of high temperatures.

The programme supports Dubai’s wider efforts to promote healthier lifestyles by making physical activity more accessible through partnerships with major destinations across the emirate.

DXB’s participation expands the initiative beyond traditional retail venues, highlighting how public spaces can be adapted to support community wellness activities.

The airport, operated by Dubai Airports, remains the world’s busiest international airport by passenger traffic and serves as a major global aviation connection point.

The Mallathon event at DXB aligns with Dubai’s broader health and fitness goals, including efforts led under the vision of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, to encourage active lifestyles across the emirate.

Organisers are expected to continue expanding summer fitness activities across Dubai, offering residents and visitors more opportunities to exercise indoors during the warmer months.
