Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Dr E Vishnu Vardhan Reddy has been appointed as India’s new Consul General in Dubai, taking charge of one of the country’s most significant diplomatic missions overseas. The appointment was confirmed by the Consulate General of India in Dubai, with Dr Reddy expected to formally assume office after presenting his credentials to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He succeeds Satish Kumar Sivan, who has completed his tenure leading the Indian mission serving Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
A 2008-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Dr Reddy brings experience across diplomacy, public administration and international engagement. He is also reported to be the first IFS officer from Telangana to serve as India’s Consul General in Dubai.
Originally from Warangal district, Dr Reddy is an alumnus of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. Before his latest appointment, he served as Special Secretary for Investment Promotion and External Engagements in the Telangana government. Earlier in his career, he also held the position of Regional Passport Officer in Hyderabad.
During his diplomatic career, Dr Reddy has represented India in assignments across Europe and Latin America, while also serving at the United Nations. His international experience comes as Dubai continues to play a central role in India’s global diplomatic and economic engagement.
The Consulate General of India in Dubai is among India’s busiest overseas missions, providing consular services, passport assistance, visa support and community outreach for a large Indian expatriate population across Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
The appointment also comes at a time of expanding economic cooperation between India and the UAE. Bilateral trade has continued to grow following the implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), with Dubai remaining a key gateway for trade, investment and business between the two countries.
Ahead of assuming his new role, Dr Reddy has already begun engaging with industry stakeholders in India, including representatives from the gems and jewellery sector, an industry that maintains strong commercial links with the UAE.
His predecessor, Satish Kumar Sivan, concluded his tenure after several years of engagement with government authorities, business leaders and community organisations across the UAE. During his farewell meetings, he thanked UAE leaders and the Indian community for their continued support in strengthening India-UAE relations.
As Dr Reddy prepares to take office, attention will focus on continuing consular services for residents, supporting the welfare of the Indian diaspora and further deepening the strategic partnership between India and the UAE.
