The event was held in a glittering ceremony at RTA Head Office; which was adorned by ecstatic children along with their families.

Al Tayer was delighted with this felicitation considering it a human celebration in the first respect relating to an achievement that proves successful on the ground every day. Involving children’s participation in this event has fostered an atmosphere of fun befitting the objective we were keen to realize i.e. making the metro anniversary an event for brining renewed enjoyment with this civilized showpiece.

Khalifa Mohammed Abdulla, Yousef Ahmed Al Mosa, Sultan Hasan Al Khayal, and Hamdan Ibrahim won a 2-night stay in hotels and resorts of the UAE. Al Tayer also decorated the children who won the Metro Congrats contest who were awarded gold bullions namely: Omran Al Awadi, Abdullah Al Fardan, Isra Ashraf, Mariam Al Baluchi, and Pertical Anish.

Moaza Al Marri, Director of RTA Marketing and Corporate Communication, said, “The Dubai Metro is worth celebrating with the number of riders hovering around half a billion since it was launched. This project owes gratitude to Dubai emirate which assumes the responsibility of pleasing visitors, tourists and residents. Based on this lofty value, we have made two competitions; the first is Metro Baby, which is oriented to youngsters born on 9/9/2009, where parents had sent photos of their children born on that day via RTA social networking sites in a gesture aimed at adding a childlike atmosphere to the fifth metro anniversary. The second competition is Metro Congrats, which targeted children born in 2009 only, who offered the best video congratulations to the Metro on this occasion.”

Al Marri added, “We were so excited to see children along with their families, heading to participate and celebrate their birthdays in concurrence with the metro launch anniversary. Those moments reflected an extraordinary coherence depicting childhood innocence and an imposing edifice where children enjoyed a fun-packed atmosphere as they moved with their families from one station to the other. The carnival-themed festivity marked the celebrations of adults and children of such modern facility like the Dubai Metro, which everyday proves its key role in facilitating our daily mobility to our workplaces, not to mention its effective role in highlighting the importance of mass transit modes & their positive contribution to preserving the environment as it is an electric-powered metro that helps reduce traffic congestion, and contributes to dispensing with private vehicles and reducing carbon footprint which has become a global objective that each civilized nation seeks to realize.”
