DOHA, Jan 26 (QNA) – A humanitarian aid vessel carrying 2,428 metric tons of assistance from Qatar and Turkey has arrived in Sudan, the Qatar News Agency reported Sunday.
The shipment was received by Abdullah Rashid Al-Kashashi Al-Muhannadi, ChargĂ© d’Affaires at the Qatari Embassy in Sudan, according to a statement.
The aid includes food supplies, clothing, tents, blankets, and household items intended for vulnerable and displaced communities affected by the ongoing conflict.
The delivery is part of ongoing cooperation between the Qatar Fund for Development and the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
“The arrival of this aid reflects the continued commitment of Qatar and Turkey to delivering coordinated and principled humanitarian support,” the statement said.
Background: Sudan has been gripped by violent conflict since April 2023 between the national army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. The UN estimates nearly 25 million people – half the population – need humanitarian assistance, with over 8 million displaced. International aid efforts face severe access and security challenges.
The Qatar Fund for Development reiterated its dedication to “supporting crisis-affected populations through timely humanitarian assistance” and working with partners to “contribute to peace and stability.”
