Kuwait's wheelchair basketball team participates in 6th West Asia tourney

KUWAIT- Kuwait national wheelchair basketball team takes part in the 6th West Asia tourney which starts in Dubai on Saturday(May 10th) and will continue until May 14 with the participation of eight teams from the west of the continent.

The Kuwaiti team starts its debut in the tournament, which is held under the patronage of the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, by playing against its Palestinian counterpart within the first group that also includes Saudi Arabia and Syria, while the second group consists of Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Jordan.

President of the West Asia Wheelchair Basketball Federation Shafi Al-Hajri told KUNA that the tournament, the first for the federation at the teams level, will be of great importance due to the fact that the top three teams in the tournament will qualify to play in the Asian Championship to be held in South Korea next October.

Al-Hajri, who is also chairman of Kuwait Sports Club for the Disabled, added that the organizing committee of the tournament has completed all preparations for the launch of this important sporting event, expecting that the tournament would witness high motivation by all participating teams.

He hailed the strenuous efforts made by the organizers represented by Hamdan bin Mohammed Center for Heritage Revival and Dubai Club for the Disabled.-KUNA
