Kuwait's Fifth International Genetics Conference kicks off

KUWAIT- Under the patronage of Minister of Health Ali Al-Obaidi, the Fifth International Genetic Conference kicked off on Monday(May 5th) with the participation of a galaxy of genetic experts and professors from across the globe.

Addressing the opening session, the Health Ministry Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs Qais Al-Dewari said that Kuwait is closely monitoring the latest developments in medical care.

He added that the conference is organized every two years by Kuwait Medical Genetics Center, an affiliate to the Health Ministry, and world genetics experts are invited to it. He noted that Kuwait has been pioneering in genetics diseases study and treatment in the whole region.

The three-day event, themed “A New Era of Diagnosis, Treatment and Prevention”, tackles a plethora of key issues relative to diagnosis, treatment and prevention of genetic diseases.

The agenda features a large number of topics including the following: newborn screening and metabolic disorder; clinical genetics and counselling; new molecular and cytogenetic approaches for diagnosis; therapeutic modalities of genetic disorder; cancer genetics; immunogenetics; and preventive genetics. Two parallel sessions will be held on the sidelines of the conference to debate inborn errors of metabolism and emergency approaches to diagnosis and management.-KUNA
