Oman’s Royal Oman Police has helped dismantle a suspected international criminal network linked to human trafficking and drug smuggling following a joint investigation with authorities in Zimbabwe, according to Interpol.
The operation resulted in the rescue of a trafficking victim, the arrest of four suspects and the seizure of suspected narcotics, Interpol said.
The investigation began in June after Zimbabwean authorities alerted international partners about a suspected trafficking case involving a person allegedly recruited through a fake employment opportunity.
According to Interpol, investigators found that the victim had allegedly been deceived with promises of work in Oman before being exploited as part of a drug smuggling operation.
Authorities said the victim was allegedly forced to transport drug-filled capsules during travel before being intercepted after arriving in Oman.
The coordinated effort involved Interpol Muscat, the Royal Oman Police and Zimbabwean law enforcement agencies, allowing investigators to identify and disrupt the suspected criminal network.
Interpol praised the cooperation between the agencies, saying the case demonstrated the importance of international coordination in addressing crimes that cross national borders.
Human trafficking and drug smuggling remain major challenges for law enforcement agencies worldwide, with criminal groups often exploiting vulnerable individuals through false job offers and financial promises.
Authorities continue to encourage the public to remain cautious of overseas employment opportunities that appear suspicious and to verify recruitment offers through official channels.
Further legal proceedings and investigations into the arrested suspects are expected as authorities continue examining the network’s activities and possible links to wider organised crime operations.
