Dubai Duty Free Smashes Records with AED2.06 Billion Q1 2025 Sales

Dubai: Dubai Duty Free has kicked off 2025 with a bang, raking in a record-breaking AED2.06 billion (US$565 million) in sales for the first quarter. The travel retail giant’s coffers overflowed in February, hitting an all-time monthly high of AED709 million (US$194 million) – a jaw-dropping AED25.3 million daily average.

Ramesh Cidambi, Managing Director, credited the stellar figures to top-notch service and a surge in passenger traffic at Dubai International Airport. “February was a standout, proving our strategy’s spot-on,” he said. Perfumes led the pack, pulling in AED371 million – 18% of the total – while confectionery sales soared 57%, thanks to blockbuster Dubai-branded chocolate promos.

Duty-Free Boom Fuels Global Appeal
Duty-free shopping continues to be a golden goose for Dubai, with its tax-free allure drawing millions of travelers. Industry data from the Tax Free World Association (TFWA) pegs the global duty-free market at $85 billion in 2024, projected to hit $100 billion by 2027, driven by Asia and the Middle East. Dubai Duty Free’s edge lies in its prime location – handling over 86 million passengers annually at DXB – and a luxe lineup featuring brands like Louis Vuitton and Chanel, set to expand in Concourse A later this year. This growth aligns with the UAE’s push to cement its status as a retail and tourism powerhouse.

The numbers signal Dubai’s unstoppable rise as a global retail and travel hub, with duty-free shoppers splashing cash like never before. With passenger numbers climbing, the emirate’s retail empire is cashing in big time – and there’s no sign of slowing down.
