Breaking News: Ramadan Moon Sighted in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH/ABU DHABI- The crescent moon (Hilal) marking the start of Ramadan 1447 AH has been officially sighted in Saudi Arabia on the evening of Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court confirmed the sighting, announcing that the holy month of Ramadan will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, February 18, 2026, with the first day of fasting (first roza) starting at dawn.

This aligns with announcements from several other Gulf countries, including the UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain, which typically follow Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting. Most GCC nations (except Oman) will start Ramadan on February 18.

Oman Exception: Oman has confirmed that Ramadan will begin on Thursday, February 19, 2026, based on their moon-sighting committee and astronomical calculations indicating the crescent was not visible on February 17.

In India: The start varies by region and local committees. Most of India, including many northern and central areas, is expected to begin fasting on Thursday, February 19, 2026, often following a day after the Gulf sighting or based on local observations. Ramadan Mubarak to all! The blessed month has arrived—may it bring peace, blessings, and acceptance of our fasts and prayers.
