ABU DHABI — Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health announced Thursday the launch of an integrated reproductive health programme with targets through 2030, positioning the emirate as a global leader in the sector.
The Abu Dhabi Programme for the Future of Reproductive Health combines advanced clinical care, research and innovation across prevention, genetic screening, fertility treatment and assisted reproductive technologies including IVF.
“We aim to continue delivering proactive, personalised care that supports individuals and families throughout every stage of their reproductive health journey,” said Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, chairman of the Department of Health.
The programme spans preconception health, genetic screening, fertility diagnosis and treatment, IVF, and fertility preservation including egg freezing and embryo preservation. It integrates genomics and genetic data to enable increasingly precise and personalised care.
Abu Dhabi’s IVF success rates have reached 59 percent across the emirate, among the highest globally. The programme targets raising this to 80 percent through precision medicine, genomics, artificial intelligence and health data analytics.
The initiative brings together more than 2,000 clinical, scientific and technical experts across over 250 facilities. It plans further expansion through Centres of Excellence and the attraction of leading international medical centres and specialists.
The programme leverages a database of nearly one million genomes alongside premarital and preconception genetic screening programmes to identify inherited risks earlier and support informed reproductive decisions.
“Reproductive health begins long before treatment is needed, with prevention and early screening,” said Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, undersecretary of the Department of Health. “Through this programme, we are bringing together healthcare providers, researchers and innovators.”
The emirate’s advanced healthcare infrastructure, digital capabilities, agile regulatory environment and growing research ecosystem provide the foundation for these efforts.
Abu Dhabi has also established the world’s first Global Reproductive Health Advisory Council, comprising leading international experts and researchers. The council will contribute to developing global standards, identifying research priorities, strengthening international collaboration and accelerating the translation of innovations into Abu Dhabi’s clinical environment.
The programme represents a shift from providing advanced healthcare services toward building an integrated ecosystem that creates knowledge, accelerates innovation and advances standards and solutions in reproductive health.
