BARCELONA, June 27 (WAM) — Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, presented certificates Friday to the first 24 graduates of a master’s programme jointly run by the University of Sharjah and the University of Barcelona, the first joint degree offered by a Spanish and a UAE university.
The Master of Science in Media Entrepreneurship and Digital Innovation is delivered by Sharjah’s College of Communication with the University of Barcelona and backed by Sharjah Media City (Shams). Graduates receive a dual degree combining digital communication training with entrepreneurship and innovation studies.
Sheikh Sultan, who is also President of the University of Sharjah, told graduates the programme reflected a long Emirati tradition of looking outward. “Prosperity comes not from standing still, but from engaging with the wider world, learning from it, contributing to it, and growing through it,” he said, comparing the graduates’ next step to ships leaving a harbour.
Miquel Soriano, Catalonia’s director-general of universities, called the partnership a model for cross-border academic cooperation. University of Barcelona officials and graduate representative Mahra Al Amiri also addressed the ceremony.
Sheikh Sultan met separately with University of Barcelona Rector Dr. Joan Guardia and toured the university’s library and graduation hall.
The ceremony was attended by Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansouri, Rashid Abdullah Al Obad and University of Sharjah Chancellor Issam Al-Din Ibrahim Ajami, along with graduates’ families.
