SATNA, India, Jan 29, 2026 (GDM) — Police in India’s central state of Madhya Pradesh have registered a criminal case against a local leader of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over allegations that he assaulted and threatened a young woman, officials said Wednesday.
An FIR was filed against Pulkit Tandon, BJP president of the Nagod mandal in Satna district, after a video purportedly showing the incident circulated widely on social media. The BJP has also issued a show-cause notice to Tandon, seeking his explanation.
“An FIR has been registered and we are examining the video evidence,” a senior police officer told to the media. “Further action will depend on the investigation. The two parties were known to each other and had a dispute, which is also being looked into.”
Tandon has not publicly responded to the allegations.
According to police, the alleged incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Tuesday within the Nagod police station area. The complainant told investigators she was called to a warehouse on the pretext of attending to a customer, using the mobile phone of one of Tandon’s associates.
She alleged that upon entering the warehouse, she found Tandon consuming alcohol and that he grabbed her hand when she attempted to leave. The woman said she threw his mobile phone while trying to escape and ran outside, after which Tandon allegedly chased her and threw a liquor bottle.
The complainant further alleged that Tandon slapped and pushed her, causing her to fall against an iron rod. She said her mother and brother arrived after she failed to return home and were also assaulted when they tried to intervene and record the incident.
The woman later lodged a complaint at Nagod police station along with her family members.
The incident has drawn political attention following the video’s circulation online. BJP district general secretary Ramakant Gautam confirmed that a show-cause notice had been issued to Tandon in connection with the allegations.
