ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (GDM) — UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Qatar Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Saturday stressed the need to safeguard peace and stability in the region during talks in Abu Dhabi, as the Qatari leader made a fraternal visit to the United Arab Emirates.
The two leaders emphasised their shared commitment to dialogue and diplomacy as key means of bolstering regional security. They also reviewed ways to strengthen co-operation between their countries across various sectors, reflecting what both described as the close ties between their nations and peoples.
Sheikh Tamim arrived earlier in the day at Al Bateen Airport in Abu Dhabi, where he was received by Sheikh Mohamed.
Among those present to welcome the Qatari Amir were Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court; Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence; Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser; Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior; Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes’ Affairs; Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs; and Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Adviser to the UAE President, along with other senior officials.
Sheikh Tamim was accompanied by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, Personal Representative of the Emir; Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia and President of the Qatar Olympic Committee; Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi, Chief of the Emiri Diwan; Sheikh Al Qaqa bin Hamad Al Thani; Sheikh Hamad bin Tamim Al Thani; and a number of senior officials.
In a post on the social media platform X, Sheikh Mohamed said he was pleased to meet Sheikh Tamim and discuss “the fraternal relations that unite the UAE and Qatar and their brotherly peoples, and ways to strengthen them for the sake of shared development.”
He added that the two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international developments “within the framework of our approach that supports peace and stability in the region and the world, and prosperity for all peoples.”
Sheikh Tamim, in a separate message on X, said the talks reflected the significant efforts made by both countries to enhance security and stability in the region.
Earlier in the week, Sheikh Tamim held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss de-escalation efforts in the region, as Washington and Tehran pursue diplomatic solutions regarding Iran’s nuclear programme.
