Dubai Team Removes Complex Spine Tumors in 2-Hour Op

DUBAI, Jan 25 (GMD) – A medical team at Dubai’s Tadawi Hospital has successfully removed multiple complex tumours from a man’s cervical spine in a two-hour surgery, preventing potential paralysis.

The patient, in his early forties, had severe hand weakness and neck pain. Imaging revealed critical tumours at the seventh cervical and first thoracic vertebrae, compressing the spinal cord.

Dr Mahmoud AbouSeid, the lead surgeon, described the procedure as challenging due to the sensitive area’s proximity to major blood vessels and nerves.

The team removed the tumours through a small anterior neck incision, decompressed the spinal cord, and stabilised the spine with a bone-grafted implant.

The patient has begun recovery and will continue oncological treatment. Dr AbouSeid said the surgery highlights the advanced capabilities of Dubai’s healthcare sector
