UAE Food Bank distributes 5,000 meals to workers in one-day outreach drive

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates  — The UAE Food Bank distributed 5,000 meals to workers across Dubai in a one-day outreach drive, underscoring the country’s commitment to food security, social cohesion and inclusive community engagement.

The initiative was carried out in partnership with Majid Al Futtaim and Majra, a federal entity that supports private-sector impact in corporate social responsibility and sustainability.

The UAE Food Bank said the initiative reflects its mandate to transform surplus food into sustainable social impact through structured partnerships. The expansion from 3,000 to 5,000 beneficiaries this year highlights the growing role of cross-sector collaboration in delivering scalable, community-centered solutions.

Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, minister of economy and tourism and chairman of Majra, said the UAE has built a leading model in humanitarian work grounded in sustainability, partnership and impact.

“The collaboration between Majra, Majid Al Futtaim and the UAE Food Bank reflects integrated efforts between government, private sector and humanitarian initiatives to maximize community impact, strengthen food security and reinforce social cohesion,” he said.

Manal Obaid bin Yaroof, head of the UAE Food Bank’s executive team, said the initiative demonstrates how surplus redistribution and responsible resource management can directly support national food security goals while strengthening social cohesion.

Ahmed Galal Ismail, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Holding, said the outreach highlights the impact of coordinated action. “By combining our capabilities, we reached more people than ever and contributed to the UAE’s efforts to enhance food security, social cohesion and responsible resource use,” he said.

The initiative reflects the UAE’s broader push to embed social responsibility into national development through collaboration between public institutions, businesses and civil society. Founded in 1992, Majid Al Futtaim is an Emirati-owned lifestyle conglomerate operating across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, employing more than 41,000 people and serving about 600 million customers annually.
