SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates (GDM) — Indian carrier SpiceJet has launched a new scheduled service between Ahmedabad and Sharjah, strengthening air links between India and the UAE and catering to strong demand from Indian expatriates, businesses and families in the Gulf.
Flights began Thursday, Feb. 5, operating five times a week with Boeing 737 aircraft, Sharjah Airport Authority said. The route adds flexibility for travelers moving between Gujarat and the UAE’s northern emirates, a corridor popular with Indian professionals, traders and visiting families.
Sharjah Airport Authority Chairman Ali Salim Al Midfa said the new service reflects the airport’s strategy to expand its international network, particularly with India, one of its largest source markets for both inbound and outbound travel. He said the authority continues to invest in facilities and smart services to streamline passenger movement and improve the overall travel experience as traffic grows.
India remains a key growth market for Sharjah, with the airport seeking deeper partnerships with Indian airlines to widen connectivity and support tourism, trade and community travel.
SpiceJet Chief Business Officer Debojo Maharshi said the Ahmedabad–Sharjah route responds to “strong and growing” demand between India and the UAE. “Sharjah has long been an important destination for Indian travelers, whether for work, tourism or visiting family,” he said, adding that the airline aims to expand connectivity from major Indian cities.
The launch comes amid a broader expansion at Sharjah Airport. In 2025, the airport grew its network to more than 100 global destinations, added four new international airlines and rolled out operational upgrades to reduce waiting times. New routes recently announced include Krabi, Munich, Prague, Vienna and Addis Ababa, with direct flights to London set to begin in March 2026.
