Doha, Qatar — Qatar on Tuesday launched the 15th edition of National Sports Day under the slogan “I Chose Sport,” with activities held nationwide in a celebration of health, community and active living.
Observed annually on the second Tuesday of February, the event is unique to Qatar and underscores the role of physical activity in promoting social cohesion and quality of life.
Government and private entities organized a wide range of sporting and recreational events in public parks, open spaces and sports facilities across the country, ensuring broad access and participation.
From early morning, major locations including the Doha Corniche, Aspire Zone, The Pearl, Qatar Foundation, Lusail, Msheireb and Katara were transformed into open-air sports venues. Families and children turned out in large numbers, taking part in fitness sessions, games and entertainment programs.
The day highlighted sport as a bridge for community engagement and a pillar of healthy lifestyles. Since its launch in 2012 under Amiri Decision No. 80 of 2011, National Sports Day has drawn tens of thousands of participants each year.
The initiative aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly its human development goals, and aims to encourage citizens and residents to adopt physical activity as part of daily life.
Officials say the annual observance reinforces sport’s ethical, social and health benefits, positioning Qatar as a regional leader in promoting a nationwide culture of wellness.
