World Green Economy Summit Bolsters UAE’s Leadership in Global Climate Action

DUBAI – The World Green Economy Summit (WGES), convened under the patronage of   Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, reaffirms the UAE’s pivotal role in advancing international efforts to combat climate change and mitigate its far-reaching impacts on economies, societies, and the environment.

Organized by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO), WGES serves as a paramount platform for global discourse, gathering leading experts, researchers, and thought leaders from prestigious international institutions. This year’s summit, themed “Empowering Global Action: Unlocking Opportunities and Advancing Progress,” is scheduled for 2-3 October at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, MD & CEO of DEWA, and Chairman of WGEO, underscored WGES’s pivotal role in bolstering the UAE’s commitment to pioneering green solutions and bolstering global climate initiatives. Al Tayer highlighted that the upcoming summit builds on the achievements of COP28, hosted by the UAE in Expo City Dubai, which culminated in the landmark ‘UAE Consensus’ and the establishment of the USD 30 billion Alterra Fund. These initiatives aim to mobilize up to USD 250 billion in climate investments by 2030, fostering sustainable development across vulnerable regions.

WGES 2024 will address critical themes including decarbonisation, clean energy innovations, climate finance, circular economy models, regulatory frameworks, technological solutions for climate resilience, youth engagement in climate action, and sustainable food and water practices. Since its inception in 2014, WGES has aligned with the UAE’s forward-thinking policies such as the Net Zero 2050 Strategy and the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, demonstrating unwavering commitment to achieving climate neutrality and advancing renewable energy deployment.
