Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical heads to Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, Jan. 26, 2026 (GMD) – The Broadway musical “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” will make its Middle East premiere in Abu Dhabi from August 28 to September 6, 2026, producers announced on Monday.

The stage adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved novel will be staged at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island. The production is brought to the UAE capital by Proactiv Entertainment, in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and Miral.

Following a sold-out run in Shanghai in late 2025, the international tour continues with its stop in Abu Dhabi. The show features iconic songs from the classic 1971 film, including “Pure Imagination” and “The Candy Man,” alongside original music by Grammy and Tony Award winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

Producers promise a visually spectacular production that brings Willy Wonka’s fantastical factory to life, utilizing advanced stage technology and illusions designed by Las Vegas-based illusionist Tim Clothier.

In a statement, Nicolas Renna, CEO of Proactiv Entertainment, said the musical “sparks imagination in children while evoking a deep sense of nostalgia for adults.” The producers, Broadway International Group, highlighted the show’s “breathtaking special effects and cutting-edge” technology.

The musical premiered on Broadway in 2017 and enjoyed a successful run in London’s West End, winning two Olivier Awards. Its current global tour is scheduled to visit major cities across Asia and the Middle East over the next two years.

Tickets for the Abu Dhabi performances go on sale January 26 via the Etihad Arena website, with prices starting from 130 UAE dirhams ($35)
