All-new Geely EX5 EM-i, marking major UAE push into new energy vehicles

Dubai, UAE – AGMC, the official distributor of Geely Auto in the UAE, has launched the all-new GEELY EX5 EM-i plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), signalling a significant long-term commitment to Geely’s New Energy Vehicle (NEV) strategy in the region.

The launch builds on the momentum of the recently introduced all-electric GEELY EX5 and positions the EX5 EM-i as a compelling new contender in the mainstream C-SUV segment. Designed specifically with UAE driving conditions in mind, the model blends extended range, fuel efficiency and advanced connectivity with contemporary design and high safety standards.

Designed for UAE roads

Built on Geely’s latest Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA) and powered by the EM-i Super Hybrid System, the GEELY EX5 EM-i delivers a combined driving range of up to 1,065km, including 170km on pure electric power. A 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a 29.8kWh battery produces up to 317hp and 387Nm of torque, while achieving a world-leading 46.5% engine thermal efficiency.

Fuel consumption can be as low as 4.3L/100km, making the EX5 EM-i equally suited to daily commutes and long-distance travel across the Emirates.

Digital connectivity is anchored by the Flyme Auto System, offering voice commands, a 16-speaker entertainment system and seamless integration with the Geely App, which allows remote cabin pre-cooling and vehicle location tracking.

Modern design, premium comfort

The EX5 EM-i follows a minimalist, international design philosophy, with a sleek yet muscular profile sculpted from nine curved surfaces. A floating design language, continuous front light strip and full-width rear lighting give the SUV a modern, confident road presence.

Inside, the cabin focuses on space and functionality, offering more than 30 storage solutions and up to 2,056 litres of cargo capacity with seats folded. The trunk alone provides 428 litres, with an additional 100-litre underfloor compartment.

Ergonomic seats feature an eight-layer cushion system and three-level ventilation. The MAX+ variant adds a panoramic sunroof, a 15.4-inch infotainment display, and 256-colour ambient lighting, reinforcing the vehicle’s premium positioning.

For outdoor enthusiasts, a dedicated camping mode enables one-touch cabin optimisation, adjusting lighting and audio while allowing the vehicle to function as an external power source—turning it into a mobile hub for weekend adventures across the UAE.

Safety at the core

Safety remains central to the EX5 EM-i’s engineering. The model has achieved five-star ratings from both Euro NCAP and ANCAP, reflecting its robust structural design and advanced driver assistance systems.

Built on the GEA platform, the vehicle incorporates a triple-power redundancy system to minimise range anxiety. Its cloverleaf force-dispersing structure and reinforced safety cell redirect impact forces away from the fuel tank and battery.

The battery is protected by a high-strength “sandwich” underguard validated through more than 100 extreme-condition tests. Occupant protection is provided by six large-volume airbags, including integrated side curtains, while a 360-degree active safety suite uses high-precision cameras and dual millimetre-wave radars for lane assistance and collision mitigation.

Sustainability and long-term investment

The UAE launch comes as Geely Auto Group marks a record year globally, with 3.02 million vehicles sold in 2025. New energy vehicles accounted for 1.69 million units, a 90% year-on-year increase, placing Geely among the world’s top two NEV passenger car manufacturers.

AGMC is translating this global momentum into local investment, including the rollout of dedicated NEV infrastructure, specialised service centres and a growing pipeline of battery electric and plug-in hybrid models tailored for the regional market.

The EX5 EM-i has already received multiple international design accolades, including the 2025 Red Dot Design Award, 2025 MUSE Design Award Platinum Prize, and 2024–2025 Italian A’ Design Award, underscoring its global appeal.

Customer-first approach

To support the transition to electrified mobility, AGMC is developing a nationwide network of Geely NEV-specific showrooms and aftersales facilities, staffed by technicians trained exclusively in EV and PHEV technologies.

“We are delighted to bring the GEELY EX5 EM-i to the UAE market,” said Dr Andreas Schaaf, Group Director at Albatha Automotive Group. “The time is right for an affordable, stylish compact SUV that supports busy lifestyles while remaining at the forefront of green technology. This vehicle demonstrates that sustainability, driving excitement and real cost savings can go hand in hand.”

Dr Schaaf added that AGMC’s investment extends beyond physical infrastructure. “We are investing in the trust of our customers, with dedicated leadership across sales, marketing and aftersales, and technicians trained to deliver best-in-class support for every Geely NEV owner in the UAE.”

As the UAE accelerates its transition towards a carbon-neutral future, AGMC and Geely are positioning the EX5 EM-i as a practical, future-ready solution—bridging the gap between conventional vehicles and fully electric mobility.
