WHO Warns of ‘Huge Biological Risk’ After Fighters’ Occupation of Health Lab in Sudan

Geneva, April 25  – The World Health Organization (WHO) warned of a “huge biological risk” in Sudan after gunmen took control of a national laboratory in light of the clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces.

“There is a huge biological risk associated with the occupation of the central public health lab,” said Nima Saeed Abid, the WHO’s representative in Sudan on Tuesday.

“Fighters kicked out all the technicians from the lab, which is completely under the control of one of the fighting parties as a military base,” he said.

WHO also confirmed that it had documented 14 attacks on the health sector since the start of the clashes on April 15, which led to the death of eight people and the injury of two persons.
