Shweta Wahi unveils her new collection at India Fashion Week
DUBAI- Canadian-Indian fashion designer Shweta Wahi unveiled her stunning new collection at India Fashion Week (IFW) in Dubai yesterday.
The youngest designer at this year’s edition of the fashion extravaganza,Shweta is just 23 years old and presented her latest designs alongside stalwarts of Indian fashion world such as Ritu Kumar and Vikram Phadnis. With vast international exposure to her credit, this was Shweta’s 27th show. Having worked in a wide array of countries ranging from Canada to South Africa,Shweta understands practical usage of Indian clothing, and has had some of the biggest names in the business wear her creations. Super models such as Mala Bryan from New York, Hilda Dias Pimental (was the face of Lancôme dreamtone last year) and Aminat Ayinde (Americas next top model runner up) have represented her brand in the past. For Shweta, fashion isn’t just about glamour; her creations afford equal importance to comfort and everyday wearability. And as a nod to this philosophy her models always walk bare foot on the catwalk, rather than wear uncomfortably tall heels. Her latest collection is all about arabised ready-to-wear clothing with a desi twist. So it’s all about clean flowing abayas, jalabiyas and westernised separates; all with a slight edge to them. The collection at IFW consists of a whole new introspection of Indian/Arabic culture and fashion. “I’ve reworked and added an Indian feel to the abaya and jalabiya silhouette. You can expect commercially viable, ready-to-wear pieces with clean, classic cuts,” says Shweta talking about her latest collection. Shweta Wahi’s collection was revealed on September 4th, 2014 at the India Fashion Week.
