UN official hails Hamdan International Photography Award as promoter of peace
DUBAI- Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal, Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, commended The Hamdan International Photography Award (HIPA) for promoting principles of humanity and peace through the power of photography.
Tieffenthal made his remarks during a recent visit to the HIPA headquarters where he was welcomed by Sahar Mohammad Al Zarei, Assistant Secretary General of the Award, and Saeed Mohamed Al Nabouda, Acting Director General of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) and Vice-Chairman of the Award’s Board of Trustees.
The UN official lauded the ”Faces” initiative, an exhibition of collection of photographs captured by Syrian children in the Emirati-Jordanian Camp (EJC) in Jordan as ”very touching” and delivered the Award’s vision for making men through development of refugee children’s capacities and passion for photography. He called for launching of more similar initiatives, hinting that the UN might have a role in that respect in the near future.
He also received a presentation on evolution of the Award over the last three years across the world. HIPA has emerged as one of the most prestigious awards in a record time attracting entries from 165 countries.-WAM
