Abu Dhabi: The UAE and the United States have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at bolstering cooperation in intellectual property (IP) rights protection. This strategic partnership will create a robust framework to foster innovation and creativity, contributing to economic growth and sustainable development in both nations.
The MoU was signed by H.E. Dr. Abdulrahman Hassan Al Muaini, Assistant Undersecretary for Intellectual Property at the UAE Ministry of Economy, and Kathi Vidal, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The signing was witnessed by H.E. Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy.
H.E. Bin Touq emphasized the UAE’s commitment to fostering an innovative ecosystem with robust IP laws and regulations, attracting global talent and encouraging the establishment of creative businesses.
The UAE is dedicated to protecting intellectual property through comprehensive laws on industrial property rights, trademarks, and copyrights. The Ministry of Economy recently launched an enhanced IP system with 11 initiatives to support the country’s transition to a knowledge-based economy.
This MoU signifies a significant milestone in the UAE’s efforts to attract and retain global innovators, ensuring their creations are well-protected and supported in a thriving business environment.
