Kuwaiti medical invention garners attention at conference in Paris

PARIS- A new Kuwaiti invention used in cardiac catheterization procedures garnered the attention of participants at an international conference in Paris, said Kuwaiti medical expert here on Friday(May 23rd).

Speaking to KUNA at the sideline of the EuroPCR 2014 conference, Head of unit of cardiac catheterization at the chest diseases Hospital and member of the faculty of medicine at Kuwait University (KU), Dr. Ibrahim Rashdan said that the reveal of the new Kuwaiti invention was well received by the conference featuring the participation of 15,000 medical experts from around the globe.

He indicated that a surgery, using the invention, was broadcasted live from Kuwait during the course of the event, noting that broadcasting the procedure was a great honor.

In regards to the invention, Dr. Rashdan said that the device was manufactured in Kuwait, adding that there were plans to market the invention in Europe through cooperation with Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) and the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity.

Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti medical expert said that he was assigned to handle an online program that would provide medical expertise and information on cardiac catheterization procedures.
On his part, Director General of the Sabah Center Dr. Omar Al-Bannai said that the center, affiliated with KFAS, was proud to have been involved in the manufacturing of the device, noting that Dr. Rashdan’s idea was a well a good investment that would hopefully benefit people.

He stressed that several international firms and businesses expressed interest in marketing the invention in Europe and America, adding that all the deals would be considered and the best one would be chosen.

Cardiac catheterization is the insertion of a catheter into a chamber or vessel of the heart. This is done both for diagnostic and interventional purposes.

Subsets of this technique are mainly coronary catheterization, involving the catheterization of the coronary arteries, catheterization of cardiac chambers, and valves of the Cardiac System.-KUNA
