VIENNA- King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Center for Dialogue among followers of religions and cultures has recently organized a meeting in the South African city of Cape Town to discuss the role of media in support of the values of effective dialogue among followers of religions and cultures, the relations between media and religious institutions, respect of religious and cultural diversification, and casting light on the good examples to illuminate the values of tolerance and co-existence.
Faisal bin Abdulrahman bin Muammar, Secretary General of the center, said in a statement today that the meeting, which was attended by a number of media experts, and representatives of the audiovisual and readable media as well as the new social media outlets, comes within the activities of the center as part of its “Get-acquainted to the other side of view” initiative.
He said the meeting tackled the press and media freedom, role to enhance the positive aspects to draw a public opinion, particularly that relating to co-existence and mutual interests among various religions and cultures, citing the Liberian experience on dialogue among followers of religions to reach reconciliation among Liberians following a bloody civil war in the west African country.
Bin Muammar also pointed out that there is dire need to run this kind of diversification resulting from the last trends of migration among neighboring countries in the world or resulting from wars or natural disasters.
He said the objective dialogue among followers of religions and cultures should depend on a strong knowledge about the other party of dispute, a matter that helps the media to play its role and provide good examples of co-existence and cooperation among followers of religions and cultures.-SPA
