Jawaher Al Qasimi inaugurates ‘Wonders of the East’ exhibition
SHARJAH-Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and Chairperson of Sharjah Ladies Club inaugurated the ‘Wonders of East’ exhibition, at Sharjah Ladies Club yesterday (16th April), in presence of Sheikha Aisha bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Advisory Committee of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah , and Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and Vice Chairperson of Sharjah Ladies Club. The two-day exhibition has been organised by the Sharjah Ladies Club as part of the Sharjah Islamic Culture Capital 2014 celebrations.
Sheikha Jawaher inspected the exhibition space and viewed the various stands, which showcase stunning Islamic garments along with luxurious high-end jewellery and exquisite collections of antique pieces. She met with a number of designers and expressed her appreciation of the fashion items, which reflect the beauty of Islamic designs and prove the creativity of women in all fields of art.
The opening ceremony was attended by Sheikha Shorouq Bint Humaid Al Qasimi, Sheikha Nada Bint Salim Al Qasimi, Sheikha Nawal Bint Salim Al Qasimi, Khawla Al Serkal, Director of Sharjah Ladies Club, and a number of women dignitaries and female VIPs.
Sheikha Jawaher also attended fashion shows for a group of professional and talented designers who featured their latest exclusive collections of Abaias, jewellery, and gold and silver accessories. Most items were inspired by Islamic designs alongside Western designs, which included ornaments, patterns and lines inspired by Islamic culture and were very well received by the audience.
Khawla Al Serkal said: “Through this exhibition, which comes in conjunction with the Sharjah Islamic Culture Capital 2014 Celebrations, we celebrate fashion items that reflect the spirit of the East and respect the uniqueness and style of Eastern woman. The featured items include a wide collection of fashion items mostly designed by entrepreneurial women in the art and craft fields.”
Al Serkal remarked that the accompanying fashion show was full of exclusive fashion and accessories for members of the Sharjah Ladies Club. She added that this formed part of the Club’s eagerness to organise special activities for its members and the women of Sharjah’s society women that features items not available in the general market. “The event is in line with the celebratory atmosphere in Sharjah after the Emirate’s selection as Islamic Culture Capital 2014,” she clarified.
The exhibition’s stands showcase home supplies, jewellery, watches, gemstones, fashion items, accessories, and various artworks. Accompanying activities include interactive workshops on Arabic calligraphy, painting, and perfume making and a stand to showcase valuable Islamic antiques.
