Iran, IAEA ink deal on Arak nuclear inspections
TEHRAN- The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) announced Tuesday(May 6th) it reached a deal with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the implementation of the nuclear safeguards at the Arak heavy water nuclear plant in central Iran.
The deal allows IAEA inspectors to visit the site to verify the safeguards and specifies the regulations of the inspections, IRNA news agency quoted an AEOI official as saying under anonymity.
The deal was reached with IAEA’s Deputy Director General Massimo Aparo who arrived in Tehran yesterday leading a delegation.
During their two-day stay, Aparo and his team will visit Saghand mine and Ardakan yellowcake production (uranium ore concentrate processing plant), both in the central Yazd province under the Geneva interim agreement.
The seven-item agreement, officially titled the Joint Plan of Action, was signed by Iran and the P5+1 group in Geneva, on November 24, 2013.-KUNA
