Dubai Municipality observes world heritage day
DUBAI- As a component heritage week activities initiated by UNESCO, Dubai Municipality has observed world heritage day with a variety of activities.
Eng. Rashad Bukhash inaugurated the activities at Arabian Centre in Al-Mizhar area.
While talking in the program he said, Dubai Municipality is celebrating this day to promote the rich history of heritage of Dubai and that of the UAE.
“What our forefathers left here, which we call heritage or tradition has been the real base of all the development and civilization we are appraised for, these days. And we see it as our prime duty to educate our young generation on these treasures” he added further.
He said architectural heritage department at Dubai Municipality has always been keen on promoting the cultural richness of UAE through various programs and initiatives.
Historic areas like Shindaga & Bastakiya, horses, camels and their breeding, racing and trading has been featured in various events organized by the department, he said.
He said, during heritage day celebrations all have to commit to be active in activities that ensure the protection of heritage and tradition.
He stressed the need to encourage young generation to visit heritage sites, ensure that apt legislations are enforced to protect sites and to show case it well for visitors from across the world.
Exhibitions, lectures, workshops, competitions, film show and cultural activities were included in the activities during heritage day.
Workshops on gypsum arts, handicraft, exhibition featuring children’s works and that of various traditional clubs, cultural events and various other sessions that reflect characteristics of heritage and culture of the UAE also took place as part of the activities.
